Harvest Home

26th September 2004

This family event was run for the first time this year and it proved to be very popular! Around sixty people dropped in throughout the afternoon and took part in the harvest craft activities led by artist Moira Burns. We will be running a similar activity for St Brigid’s day.

Voyage of Discovery

9th October 2004

On Saturday 9th October a flotilla of small craft set sail from Portadown and travelled up the Bann and into the historic Newry Canal – final destination Moneypenny’s! A large crowd turned out to watch the craft. Entertainment was also provided by our intrepid re-enactors aka Harry the Hauler, Mrs Gates the lockkeeper’s wife, Mrs Breakwater the Lighterwoman and Mrs Parkes the nosey neighbour. Environmental craft activities were provided in the Lockkeeper’s House by staff from the Lough Neagh Discovery Centre.
A traditional lunch was provided and a talk given by Brian Cassells on the history of the canal. The day was rounded off by the distribution of certificates to all the boat owners who had taken part after which they departed for Portadown.

Lanterns at the Lockhouse

29th & 30th October 2004

This was run for the second time this year and again proved to be highly successful. In fact we could have run it for the whole week! Each night we had over thirty people who joined us at Knock Bridge and were escorted along the towpath to Moneypenny’s where the children took part in fancy dress and lantern competitions, Halloween crafts and storytelling. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves!
